Will the jewelry fixture work with my milling machine?
The fixture was designed as a universal fixture so it could be used on all milling machines.

The fixture will bolt directly to the Roland JWX-10, MDX-40, MDX-40A, and MDX-540 rotary axis unit.
The fixture was designed so it can easily be held in a 3 or 4 jaw chuck, like what is found on a Minitech, Sherline, ModelMaster, or other minimills.
If you have a milling system not mentioned here and don't use a 3 or 4 jaw chuck email us and we will recommend how it could best be mounted to your machine.

Will the jewelry fixture work with my cam software?

The fixture will work with any cam software.

If you are currently using a program to cut out rings or models then it will work with that program.
The fixture will work with both Modela Player 4 and SRP Player.
The fixture will work with MasterCam, VisualMill, DeskProto.

Will the jewelry fixture work with Protowizard software?

If using Protowizard you will just use the core file we give you and setup and operation is exactly the same, except you won't have to cut the triangle or change out fixtures.

How does the core/support structure work?

We supply you with a core/support structure to add to your cad model.

The core/support structure is in STL format and Rhino format, we can supply other formats as well so you can use it with any cad software.

You simply insert the core and support structure into your model, it is set up to insert at the right location when inserted. The supports can be adjusted if required.

How do I setup the jewelry fixture on my machine?

The fixture comes with very clear pictures and instructions on how to set it up.
First you will screw it or clamp it to your 4th axis.
Next you will install the fixture then set the y and z origin at the center of rotation

Then you will set the x origin at the tip of the fixture with the included precision pin.

When cutting 2 sided rings or pendants you will move the X position to the left 70mm and set your origin x origin.
When cutting at the tip of the fixture for the rotary of the ring you will move the x position back 70mm to the right and set your x origin.

What if I want to build an interface for my machine, do you have a drawing?

On the CD Rom there is a pdf of the layout for the holes to make a bolt on interface for other machines.

How would I setup the file for cutting in my CAM software?

In the training manual we include detailed instructions on setting up a model to be cut in other CAM software not mentioned in this FAQ.

If you have any questions you can email us and we can help you we have over 10 years experience in multiple CAM programs so we will be able to make it work.

Where do I buy the wax to fit the fixture?

We have worked with machineablewax.com to be the supplier for our fixture.

Look under jewelry on the machineablewax.com website
Look for JWX-30 wax
The wax comes in 11mm, 16mm, 21mm, thick pieces

What size of tool do I need to use for the cutting the holes for the registration pins?

You will use what ever conical tool you are using to finish cut your model.
You are not required to use another tool just to cut the holes.
After the model is complete you will clean out the holes with the included tool and the model will fit on the registration pins perfect.

Doesn't the fixture need to be held with a tailstock?

The fixture was designed by a mechanical engineer.
An analysis was calculated to see how much the fixture would deflect from the cutting tool, cutting into the wax. There was less then .00003in of deflection after the final design.
Other fixtures require a tailstock because they have a small neck leading off the 4th axis unit.
Our fixture bolts direct to the 4th axis or it is held in the jaws of the 4th axis so it has a solid interface.

What is the accuracy of the fixture?

The fixture does not control the accuracy of the models made using it.
The accuracy you will achieve is based on the actual milling machine's accuracy.
The fixture is designed and built as a single assembly and bolted onto the 4th axis so it will never move or change its position unless it is removed.
