PDI Video Measurement System
The Video Measurement System is a complete package to retrofit your MDX machine to measure, inspect and reverse engineer parts using your machine. This is a must have for the Roland if you do any type of reverse engineering or 3D scanning.
This is a perfect companion for the 3D Scanner, some times you just want
to measure a part and then build it into your cad software, the 3D
scanner requires you to actually scan the part where as the
Video Measurement System allows you to take measurements directly on your
screen. You simply select what kind of measurement you want, and follow
the onscreen instructions, which tells you where to select. Its that
easy.
How It Works
The CMOS camera mounts right into the spindle on your machine using a 1/4" collet. You then plug the camera into your PC via a USB port. Once the software is launched you will see exactly what the camera see on your computer screen. You have two modes of operation if the items you want to measure will fit into the field of view of the camera then you choose what type of measurement you would like to make. Then using your mouse you will select the points on your screen to take the measurement. The second mode of operation is when the item is too big to view in the cameras field of view. In this case you will select the type of measurement and move the camera via the control panel to the first point you want to measure and select that point. Then you jog the machine to the next point for the measurement and select that point. The software will give you the distance. If the item or type of measurement requires more then 2 points then you will continue until all points have been collected and the software will calculate the answer.
Camera
The camera uses a system on a chip CMOS image sensor with an
embedded USB interface and image compression hardware. No external
components such as power supplies or amplifiers are needed. Just connect
the camera to the PC via USB. All image processing functions, such as
interpolation, auto exposure, auto white balance, de-flickering, and
sharpness are performed by software on the PC. Safety cable disconnect
is installed in case the spindle motor is accidentally turned on.
Software
The on screen measurement software is very intuitive and
easy to use which does not require any training. With the on screen
manual explanations of any questions you have are just a click away. The
software works in both inches and metric so there is no conversion
needed. Using the software you are able to measure on your computer
screen, position, distance, angle, diameter, radius, and center.

Compatibility
The package is compatible with the MDX-15,MDX-20,MDX-40,MDX-40A,MDX-540.
The camera is equipped with an NIST traceable 1/4" shank with .0002" tolerance.
You will need a 1/4" collet for the MDX-40, MDX-40A or MDX-540.
For MDX-15/20 customers you will need the optional 1/4" Spindle Unit.
The software will run on any Windows system using Windows 2000, XP,
2003, Vista or Windows 7. A USB is required for the camera and a CD-ROM is needed to install the software.

This product is normally kept in stock and ships with in 24-48 hours, if it is not in stock it usually requires 2 weeks before shipping. The kit ships in an plastic industrial tool case with foam cutouts to protect the camera and accessories during shipping.
